Leave the plastic wrap on
Your artist will cover your new tattoo with plastic wrap before you leave the shop. Keep the bandage on for the amount of time recommended, usually a few hours. This protects your fresh tattoo from bacteria and irritation.
Wash gently
After removing the plastic wrap, wash your hands first. Then gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and soap. DO NOT SCRUB. Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
Apply cream
Apply a very thin layer of Bepanthen Plus cream, more is not better. You just want the skin to stay lightly moisturized.
Keep it clean and dry
For the first several days, avoid:
- Baths, pools, saunas, swimming in the sea and lakes;
- Showers are fine, just don’t soak the tattoo for too long.
Don’t pick or scratch your tattoo
Tattoo will peel and itch as it heals. DO NOT pick at the flakes or scratch it, or you may cause scarring or color loss.
Wear clean, loose clothing
Avoid tight or abrasive fabrics that rub against the tattoo. Choose breathable, clean clothes to reduce irritation.
Stay out of the sun
Protect the area from direct sunlight. After it’s fully healed, always use SPF on the tattoo when you’re outside.
Healing time
Most tattoos take 2–4 weeks to heal on the surface, but deeper layers continue healing longer. Redness, slight swelling, and light scabbing are normal. If you notice anything unusual or concerning, contact your tattoo artist.
